COURSE OBJECTIVES
The course will produce graduates who have:

• An appreciation of how to acquire knowledge and skills;
• The ability to think logically, critically and independently;
• The ability to collect, integrate and interpret information;
• The ability to solve problems and communicate effectively;
• Developed leadership qualities and the capacity to work cooperatively;
• An understanding of and commitment to ethical practice;
• A commitment to intellectual thoroughness and a long-term commitment to learning;
• Acquired a body of knowledge in business and related disciplines and an understanding of the principles and conceptual framework underpinning those disciplines;
• Possession of a body of knowledge of sufficient depth and development to facilitate the obtaining of new knowledge and skills via postgraduate studies;
• A combination of knowledge and skills which can be translated directly into the workplace and which will provide a basis for future professional developments; and
• Developed an ability to work independently and to systematically apply their learning to the requirements of the workplace.

 

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
Graduates with accounting majors are employed in a wide variety of commercial, government and professional settings.
These include public accounting, banking, teaching, government organizations, stock broking, business consulting, the retailing and manufacturing industries.
Functional responsibilities include accounting, information systems analysis and design, financial reporting, cost accounting, finance, taxation, audit, financial planning and general management responsibilities .

PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION
The Bachelor of Commerce course is recognised by professional associations such as the CPA (Certified Practising Accountant) Australia and The Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.

COURSE STRUCTURE
Each of the level of a Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) program consists of four terms, students are required to complete two units per term.
There are ten lecturing-learning weeks, followed by examinations in each term.

 

DURATION
Each level can be completed in 8 months of full-time study or 12 months of part-time study. The entire Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) programme can be completed in 24 months of full-time study or 36 months of part-time study.

DELIVERY MODE
Delivery of a program is flexible and every attempt is made to accommodate student needs and allow them to maintain their activities.
Each unit of the program is normally offered through weekly tutorials and lecture sessions, i.e., 24 hours over a term.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
The normal requirements for entrance into the program would be two passes, in the A-Level examinations or equivalent and demonstrated proficiency in the English language. However those with other qualification who wish to enter the course will be considered on an individual basis at the discretion of the University.

ASSESSMENT
All units are assessed. Examples of types of assessment tasks include written scholarly papers, class presentations, examinations or creative projects such as portfolios of work or case study analysis. Students will be informed in writing about assessment requirements of every unit.
No Dissertations are required.

RECOGNITION OF THE AWARD
Awards obtained from the University of Ballarat are internationally recognised. All graduates, whether in Australia or off shore, receive the same recognition and standing, and are able to use their qualification for further education and career advancement.
