The tourism industry in Singapore recorded a total of S$10.8 billion in receipts last year. That is an increase of 10.5 percent as compared with the same period in 2004. The industry is expected to grow further, and expected to benefit more from the planned integrated resorts, which are due for completion by 2010. The resorts could generate a total of 35,000 job opportunities.
The figures are also looking excellent worldwide. The hospitality and tourism industry is growing steadily and projected to bring in revenues exceeding US$4,700 billion globally by 2012. This could result in the creation of 134 million jobs across the globe.Such growth will definitely lead to a demand for more and well – trained tourism and hospitality professionals.

CAREER OPPORTUNITIES
The course prepares graduates for roles in the tourism industry, particularly in competitive and complex environments where an understanding of the various business functions is critical. Studies include the nature and composition of the tourism industry, international tourism, delivering quality tourism products and services, the impacts of tourism, planning and sustainable development of tourism destinations and current issues affecting Singapore and international tourism. In addition to self employment in the Tourism industry, career opportunities are available in Singapore and overseas in such areas as tour wholesalers, airlines, coach and tour operations, conventions, ecotourism, attractions, special events, resorts, hotels, travel, local government or regional tourism associations in management, planning and policy development.
PROFESSIONAL RECOGNITION
Graduates of the courses are eligible for membership of the Australian Institute of Travel and Tourism
COURSE STRUCTURE
Each of the level of a Bachelor of Business (Tourism) program consists of four terms, students are required to complete two units per term.
There are ten lecturing-learning weeks, followed by examinations in each term.

DURATION
Each level can be completed in 8 months of full-time study or 12 months of part-time study.
The entire Bachelor of Business (Tourism) programme can be completed in 24 months of full-time study or 36 months of part-time study.
DELIVERY MODE
The normal requirements for entrance into the program would be two passes, in the A-Level examinations or equivalent and demonstrated proficiency in the English language.
However those with other qualification who wish to enter the course will be considered on an individual basis atthe discretion of the University.

ASSESSMENT
All units are assessed. Examples of types of assessment tasks include written scholarly papers, class presentations, examinations or creative projects such as portfolios of work or case study analysis. Students will be informed in writing about assessment requirements of every unit.
No Dissertations are required.
RECOGNITION OF THE AWARD
Awards obtained from the University of Ballarat are internationally recognised. All graduates, whether in Australia or off shore, receive the same recognition and standing, and are able to use their qualification forfurther education and career advancement.
